Iexplore.exe help?

December 29, 2009 at 07:48:59
Specs: Windows XP SP2
I have a problem. I recently had a virus that wanted to install 'Malware Defense'. I have deleted the 2 .exe files that it was running off, and got rid of the .dlls and registry entries linked; in fact I have removed all traces of Malware Defense. Now I have come across a new problem. Iexplore.exe is running and slowing down my PC, making noises and generally being a pain. It isn't my browser; I use Firefox and it seems to open when I open firefox. Im no whizz at HijackThis logs, but looking at my processes I saw where the iexplore.exe was running from and killed the process in task manager and deleted the link. Then it reinstalled the link and ran it again! I have the HijackThis log if you need it. What do I need to install to get rid of the problem? (pref. free...)

Thankyou for your time.

don't worry; all fixed.

for those who want to know how to fix the problem: I found the thing to be the h8SRT rootkit. I did these:

1. Unzip and run and restart your computer.
2. Install and run it. Then restart again.
3. That did it for me. Then I could run MalwareBytes etc to remove any last traces or trojans.

In the end the main H8SRT set was made up of 2 rootkits and 6 trojans. Thank goodness I got rid of those...
