I have a new file on my computer for a few days:
C:/WINDOWS/iexplore.exe.

I guess it is connected to the following: Internet Explorer opens on connecting to the net (ant preiodically thereafter) with adverts.

iexplore also shows in the runnig processes from the start of the system. Even if Internet Explorer is not running.

I scanned with my antivirus software, AdAware, Spybot and Trojanhunter, but without results.

I guess it is not done by simply deleting iexplore.exe. What about registry entries?

Can anyone help me with properly removing this, please?

iexplore.exe is Internet Explorer and part of the Windows operating system. With all the malware that's constantly being created, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an executable disguising itself as iexplore.exe. But unless you're really sure it's malware, I wouldn't delete it, or start chopping away in the registry.

IE is so tightly integrated into the operating system, you're liable to have dead OS fairly quick.

I'm quite sure that it is not the Internet Explorer File. Properties show that it was only created a few days ago. Also, this is not the place for the Internet Explorer file to be. I already deleted it and IE and Windows still run fine.

I just need to know whether anyone knows how to remove this properly: the iexplore.exe, registry and whatever else there might be.

there is this in a report from Trojan Hunter:

Run entries:
Explorer C:\WINDOWS\iexplore.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Explorer

Do I have to change this? How?

Could you just add .old or .bat to it and make it ineffective as an executable? Then, I think if it was me, after doing that, I would uninstall IE, eliminate that .bat (or whatever you label it) file, and then reinstall IE. Also, I'm Me, and I don't know if it carries over, but the install file for IE in my Me is not iexplorer.exe, rather it is iexplore.exe (no 'r' on the end).

I just checked it again to be sure--iexplore.exe, no 'r' on the end.

It's a Virus.

My norton picked it up as a Generic Trojan. I have no idea how it got there. Probably one of the many exploits in Windows.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.horse.html

Simply delete the file.

Open regedit Then remove the 'Explorer' registry entry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
