Comment:

Apparently, I goofed earlier today in my posting. I am helping a neighbor with their computer. Keep getting page cannot be displayed message on many (most sites). Yesterday I ran in normal & safe mode the following
spybot search & destroy
lavasoft ad-aware
grisoft avg anti virus.
Yesterday I talked twice with the techs at Alltel (their dsl isp/phone service) and they suggest that perhaps the computer has been hijacked.
I also had trouble getting the win temp files to delete, did it manually, set 2 different restore points. Still have the trouble.
I have run hijack this, and tried to send the report thru to you, but guess I was putting the cart before the horse, sorry.
If you want it, after the weekend I will be able to send it to you.
Thanks for your time/trouble!!!!
Vicks

I'm a bit confused....how did you set restore points in win98?
If it is win98se you can try scanreg /restore (Choose a backup to restore.)
If you think the PC has been hi-jacked try this free
On-line Spyware Scan
and also try
Stinger
That may work for you. Good Luck

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Sorry, this is on my neighbors sony vaio (sp)
running XP home edition. I didn't realize that everything is connected to my old laptop that I have been working on this summer. I also have a desk top with XP home edition. I take the laptop with us in our motorhome and use my cell phone as a modem when we are travelling (4-6 months a year). Slow but nice to be able to do internet from the coach.
Anyway, I appreciate the help!!!
