Comment:

Recently, my IE homepage has been changed to www.alfa-search.com or t.rack.cc (but IE always displays alfa-search when IE is loaded.)
I also get bookmarks in my Favorites menu that I didn't put there... they just show up on reboot. I ran Spybot and AdAware and they find "CoolWebSearch", but it always reappears when I run the scans again.

Had the same problem with a hijacked home page and unwanted favorites being added everytime I turned the puter on. I have XP home edition, ran a restore to about one week before the hijackig, fixed the problem in about 3 minutes.

Had the same problem in ME, i.e. alfa-search took over at start-up and unwanted favorites and desktop shortcuts appeared. Tried to restore but Windows ME refused to do it. Finally, I checked all the boxes in the Hijack-This scan list and ran the fix, it solved the problem. All except the one that won't let me restore. Put the Alfa culprit on the Hijack hit list!!
