Hi,

I had a load of spyware install itself the other day and have used Spybot, Ad Aware, CWShredder, HijackThis and others to try and get rid of them but there is now a persistent problem where IE Explorer keeps resetting its home page to 'about: blank' (Home Search) and will not reach any other internet sites.

I am able to ping Microsoft so my ISP connection is fine. HJT finds files such as ekgwu, dll, axpnt.dll, ijxug.dll as the culprits and the file name reappears differently every time I reconnect after deleting.

Anyone got a clue what I can do about this? I think I've tried everything bar reinstalling XP.

Regards

M

Make sure you are temporarily disabling system restore when you scan with your spyware tools as it is a protected directory and spyware hides in there.
Also enable viewing of hidden files, folders, and extensions. You may also need to boot up in safe mode to run your scans to see if it helps find and remove more malware. There are also free online scans at Trend Micro, Symantec Security check, Panda Online scan. You can also paste you hijack this log file and have it analyzed at www.hijackthis.de/index

Thanks guys.

Mark, that was absolutely the right link. Haven't quite got there yet. I don't get the Home Search page now but I still can't reach any addresses and Outlook Express can't find my POP3 servers either.

Web pages still resolve to ekwgu.dll

Will renew the attack tomorrow
