I am using the Nortons that came with themachine. I got a bunch of updates to my machine from windows or microsoft where ever auto updates come from and they are for servers 2008RS. the problem is that what ever those updating site see about me they think im a server so now i cant update my antivirus definitions. Symantec can only update the client. sell i guess im the client too. because of the client files they forced the update. so i then went to my updatesand i had these ones , 2 of them that were in a seperate area like top level ones or something, they were with silverlight, in that area above the others well i uninstalled the and it took all the server updates away. I did see the files in control panel programs later but was in a hurry n couldnt mess with it. I really need help securing my machine, my medium to the internet for the first 4 or 5 years for me was webtv and i think im ruined probably. You just couldnt screw anything up in webtv. n you could save your favorites. It was great. now i try to just keep a working machine. I adore the internet. If I am slotted for heaven, n I should be I hope they have webtv or computers without viruses. Sorry to bother. I feel so outta the loop. like the only dummy. I really know nothing. But knowing that I know that might be helpful to us all. ??so....whats the verdict? Oh thanks for helping me.

Ok, ty for the explanation...Norton is one of your biggest problems, I would suggest you get the uninstaller from their website and run that to clean it out properly:

After you uninstall it I would suggest you run
run that in full scan and fix all it finds

Then your next move should be to download Avast Free:

Install it and get Avast to do a bootscan on reboot:
Then move whatever it finds to the chest

Let me know how your PC runs after that, ok?

You can read up about why Avast is better than Norton & McAfee:

The free avast will work fine for you...please remember to turn the windows firewall back on after the Norton Removal
