OS: Xp Home

Model/Manufacturer: Sony Vaio
Comment:
I have no clue what I am infected with, but I get random popups, to scan my registry and saying I have errors. My computer is also slowing down. Avg has warned my about Trojans it has picked up, but I click Heal, and they still reappear.

I assume you have not downloaded some trial anti-malware product? I'm asking this because they often deliberately throw up false positives.

Try this freebie Trojan finder/fixer:
A-SQUARED FREE - JUST DOWN PAGE

Make sure you get the latest signature updates before you run it.

What other anti-malware/spyware products have you on board?

your infections may be in system restore and that's why they re-appear after AVG removal. Can you see the path of the infections? If they are in the restore folder you'll have to disable it, scan, and after cleaning out the infections turn system restore back on.

I have never had much luck with A-Squared and it takes ages to run on windows XP.
Before running a long scan like that (takes hours) I would clean out all the excess junk using Crap Cleaner and ATF cleaner which are both free and that might speed up the process.
Spybot S&D is free, update it, immunize and then do a scan of the PC.
Try this free online scan http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php
and remove all it finds

Also boddah1, please post the EXACT pop-up with the EXACT error message so we can help you out a bit better.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I've not found A Squared taking hours - 20 mins being about typical on my machines. I guess it could take a while on a slower machine or one with a well filled large HD.

Everyone has their own pet programs. I do sometimes mention that one because several times it has found and fixed the problems on here when others have missed it.

Agreed of-course about disabling system restore, running CC etc.

Well, I got the annoying popups to stop, can someone look at a HT log, and tell me what if anything is slowing down my pc?
