Comment: McAffee popped up and said I had sploit[1].arn and that it could not delete, quarantine or clean it. I immediately deleted my temporary internet files (where McAffee said it went) and disconnected from the net. I have been unable to find it with multiple manual searchs, McAffee, or AdAware SE. All are up to date. Did system restore. I then bought, updated and ran SpySweeper - no trace. MS Malware Remover - no trace. I can't tell that I have it for sure. 1. Did I get a false positive in the first place? 2. Did I get rid of it when I deleted temp. int. files before rebooting? 3. Is it still lurking in there? What exactly does this Trojan do and how can I be sure I don't have it, or, get rid of it?? Trisha

Reply: (edit)Spolit.ANR (not .ARN) is a file which can attempt to install one of many trojan infections, such as "ByteVerify", "Trojan Downloader", and a host of others. This is actually due to a vunerability in the Windows Operating System which can be read about here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/se... You should run Windows Update in order to patch this hole in windows, either by selecting Start > All Programs > Windows Update, or by visiting: http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.... You should then attempt to remove this infection if it's still present with an anti-malware solution, for which I recommend Prevx1. They have a free trial which will scan your computer and remove this infection free of charge: http://www.prevx.com
