I need Help!

Dell / 8309?
March 9, 2010 at 11:41:49
Specs: Windows XP
I used Spy Bot and thought I was doing such a good thing getting rid of adware, etc. Now I cannot even log in. I used to get a message c;\ windows\system32\command .com The Parameter is incorrect. Now I get a blue screen and it tries to reboot. I also have gotten this message when I try to use the CD to recover windows. SPCMDCON.SYS file needed for recovery console is missing. Is my computer a lost cause... I don't know that much about it. My hubby is ready to trash it. I would appreciate some help.

This is the only information that I have. If you follow these instructions, it should take care of the problem. This turns out to not be a how to remove a virus thread, but instead, how to fix spybot thread... haha, who knew?

Boot the computer normally

When the first error messages about the command.com appear open the taskmanager with ctrl+alt+del and then choosing the taskmanager terminate the explorer.exe

Click File - New Task

Enter the path to Spybot S&D (default: c:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe) to start Spybot S&D

Switch to advanced mode

Navigate to tools - system startup

Remove all Spybotdelete entries from the startup list
within Spybot S&D (Processlist) terminate the remaining instances of command.com and cmd.exe (ntvdm.exe) and close the error message windows if they are still present ( you can mark multiple entries while holding the shift and/or ctrl key and terminate them together)

From the Taskmanager click File - New Task and type explorer and hit enter to restart the Explorer

That should take care of the issue.

Best of luck
