I have the iworm_attck_v122.02a virus and it is causing unwanted pop ups among other things. I scanned it with symantec client security, but it didn't detect anything. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Please download http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click yes.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click ok.
Turn your computer back on. Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt

After you have run vundo fix please download SmitRemFix from this link http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php Then extract the contents to your desktop. Don't run it yet

Please download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this link
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/ but don't run it yet.

Download Ewido Security Suite then set it up this way Ewido Setup Instructions Be sure to update Ewido but don't run it yet

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the "SmitfraudFix" folder again and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing " Y " and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if "wininet.dll " is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing "Y" and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Next reboot into safe mode again, run Ewido and let it delete what it finds.

While still in safe mode run ATF Cleaner. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Post a new Hijack This log.

Just wanted to give you something to think about.A large majority of these infected logs have software installed like Yahoo toolbar,Aim,Aol.These could be at least indirectly responsible for some of the infections so keep that in mind once your clean. And the program 'Ares' installs alot of spyware.

Reboot to normal mode

Open Hijackthis, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
Next to "Generate StartupList log", place a check next to "List also minor sections" (full) and "List empty sections (complete).
Then click "Generate StartupList log"
Click "Yes" to the box that pops-up.
Then copy and paste to notepad what is being reported under Enumerating Task Scheduler jobs: nothing else, and post it back to this topic for review.
It will look similar to this:

Enumerating Task Scheduler jobs:

Norton AntiVirus - Scan my computer - Jarryd.job
Symantec NetDetect.job
B731FBF284697320.job

Run this free online scan from Panda

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to the desktop, then copy/paste into the text editor and post it.

Run this free online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next, Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.

Download killbox to your desktop from this link Killbox

Reboot into safe mode.

Go to start>control panel>add/remove programs>scroll down to and uninstall these if found:

myway

mywaysearch

AltnetDM

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time.

c:\windows\system32\MYDLL.dll

c:\temp\FLEOK

Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

Run Ewido from safe mode and let it delete all that it finds.

Run ATF-Cleaner again from safe mode.

Restart into normal mode.

We are going to mafe a .reg file to merge into the registry to remove an entry there.

Go to start>run>type "notepad" without the quotes. Then copy everything between the spaces into notepad:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\AltnetDM]
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Click file>save as>in the "file name" space type "fix.reg" then in the "save as type" space click the blue drop down arrow and click "all files">select desktop>click save.

Go to your desktop>find the fix.reg file and double click it>yes to merge it into the registry.

Post the Kaspersky log please.

For the missing file, you can follow the below instructions:

Open your C:\Windows\Repair folder, and try to copy two files from there, Config.NT and Autoexec.NT
Then open C:\Windows\System32 folder, move the Config.NT and Autoexec.NT files from here to recycle Bin and paste the files you copied from the Repair folder !!
Restart and run the program again .

I don't know if this has anything to do with what we are doing on my computer, but when i try to watch online videos like trailers it tells me that activeX has been disabled. I went to my internet options and looked around, but still have been unable to solve this problem.

Try this to get active x running.

Go to start and run, type in each command (one at the time and note the space after regsvr32) and press enter.

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll

After each one you should get a message saying that the dll registered successfully. Then restart the pc and try t o run the Kaspersky scan.

Go to start>run>type "regsvr32 /u initpki.dll" without the quotes ( note the space after 32 and u) >ok. Then try regsvr32 initpki.dll and see if it will register.

Try this also:

Go to start>control panel>internet options>security tab>click the globe(internet)>click default level>apply>ok.

Will Kaspersky run now?
