Hi Kyra
Firstly, did you detect this malware with Avast? If so can you open Avast from your desktop, once it is open click the menu button at the top left (it looks like an eject button) and select: "Schedule a boot-time scan".
You will asked if you want to reboot your pc, do so, you will see it scanning as your pc boots up again. Delete any infections.
When the scan is finished and pc is running again download hijackthis from here:

Save it to C:\Program Files. Once that is done locate it, open and "do a system scan and save a logfile". After the logfile has been created copy and paste the contents into this post.
