Hi all.

I've had the virus Worm Klez infected on my machine, now I am totally rid of the virus, and man that was a tough job to get around the virus, it really is very klever, anyhow.. my problem now is, my word doc's is recognized by word as a word doc, but when I try to open the doc file, word asks for the encoding method to use, and won't open the doc as a regular doc file.
Can anyone help on this prob, and hopefully give me a solution.
For the record, I have scanned my system with both Housecall and the latest mcafee virusscan and I am therefore very sure that the virus is gone, and the only prob i have now is the doc files, everything else works fine.

TIA
Flemming

i dont know why your word docs cannot be opened, but its probably because of the virus. im not sure whether you just scanned and used the antivirus program to remove the virus. from what i understand, you have to go to regedit to remove....did you?

anyways if you are really sure that the virus is gone, then why dont you uninstall and re-install microsoft office? im not surprised if your other office utilities are corrupted. do try that please.

The problem with Klez is that it ----- anything that its supposed to. So that word doc probably won't be the same. Try the encoding method, but my guess is that it won't work.

Yeah,I thought I had the virus, and I did a Norton virus scan and it told that I did indeed have the virus, and it couldn't delete or remove it...So,I ran a program to scan and rid my program of the klez virus and it told me that I did NOT have the virus.
Everything on my computer is working fine, except that i'm still revieving Klez-carrying emails with attatchments...I recieve up to 10 or 20 every day,and it's really very annoying. I really would like to know why i'm recieving these emails although I was told I DO NOT have the virus on my system...

Well, I am yet another Klez victim. I think I found the random file that it created in Windows/System I deleted it. I think that it may take care of the problem. Every virus removal tool I use tells me there is no virus on the machine, even with all the updates and new Dats etc... I went into the regedit and could not find any line containing Winkxxx.exe. I haven't recieved an email in the past few days about stuff i've supposedly sent.. any experts out there that can help me without telling me to run some stupid antivirus/cleaning tool.... becasue the past 9-12 tools DO NOT WORK!
thanks.....
