CryptoLocker Ransomware Information Guide and FAQ

December 12, 2013 at 11:24:56
So, this sounds as though you have had lots of issues. IF they are actually effecting mutiple machines on your network, my suggestion is to disable the network connection.

The next suggestion I would have is to re-set up your router/modem, and ensure that you are using a wpa(or wpa2) connection with a good password. (this should be done before going online again)

The next thing to do is to figure out how and what they are doing. I would after removing the computer from the network, run malwarebytes in safe mode on the computer that was infected. Then post the log back here.

The other thing that might help is to mention more off the symptoms that make you think you are infected. ie: messages that pop up, slowness, wierd applications.

IF you think that you are infected it might be best to check in with any sites that you use that computer for that have secure credentials involved(for exampl bank and password)

After running Malwarebytes ( MBAM ) & Copying & Pasting the contents of the log in your next post.

Run ESET Online Scanner, Copy and Paste the contents of the log please. This scan may take a very long while, so please be patient. Maybe start it before going to work or bed.

You may have to download ESET from a good computer, put it on a flash/thumb/pen drive & run it from there, if your comp is unbootable, or won't let you download.

Create a ESET SysRescue CD or USB drive
How do I use my ESET SysRescue CD or USB flash drive to scan and clean my system?

Configure ESET this way & disable your AV.
How to Temporarily Disable your Anti-virus
Which web browsers are compatible with ESET Online Scanner?
Online Scanner not working
Why Would I Ever Need an Online Virus Scanner?
I already have an antivirus program installed, isn't that enough?
Once onto a machine, malware can disable antivirus programs, prevent antimalware programs from downloading updates, or prevent a user from running antivirus scans or installing new antivirus software or malware removal tools. At this point even though you are aware the computer is infected, removal is very difficult.
5: Why does the ESET Online Scanner run slowly on my computer?
If you have other antivirus, antispyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and hinder performance. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to turn them back on after you are finished.
17: How can I view the log file from ESET Online Scanner?
The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after running, which can be examined or sent in to ESET for further analysis. The path to the log file is "C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt". You can view this file by navigating to the directory and double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer, or by copying and pasting the path specification above (including the quotation marks) into the Start ? Run dialog box from the Start Menu on the desktop.
If no threats are found, you will simply see an information window that no threats were found.

I would say that you may have inadvertently given out your password at some time and this person may be causing problems on your PC and laptop. Follow response 1's info and then do some virus and spyware checks, sounds like an unwanted rootkit is installed.

". . .hacker.hes killed my pc snd got controll of laptop. . ."

What exact symptoms are you having that lead you to believe someone is deliberately targeting you?

There are a lot of TV shows and movies that make hacking into even the most secure systems seem so easy. Sometimes people come away from that thinking their malware problems are due to some vast conspiracy against them.

Tina, it's time for some tough love. You're a loonie and I don't mean the Canadian coin. Wake up. Splash some water in your face. THIS ISN'T HAPPENING TO YOU. You have some malware on your computer and possibly some hardware issues and you have no idea on how to deal with a computer that's not working right.

You say "Ive tried to do what you suggested to no avail." Don't just say it didn't work. What exactly happened? Did you even run the scans?

You say you can't format the drive. I'm betting you tried to do that while windows was running and it didn't let you. That's what's supposed to happen.

Now pull yourself together and let's try it again. The first recommendation was to run malwarebytes. It's easy to download and easy to run. Here's a link:

(It's the download link in the upper right column)

As long as the problem computer boots to windows you should be able to run it. You can run that first or do the ESET but whichever, post back some results

Run the scans as suggested. If you want to reformat and reinstall windows you need to follow the instructions for your system. It'll either be a restore partition on your drive or you'll need the installation cd/dvd and boot from it.

Once you get it cleaned up or reinstalled, change all your online passwords, don't open email attachments unless you're sure they're legitimate. Don't fall for emails that look legitimate but are pfishing scams. I get a few every month from scammers pretending to be from my bank, AOL, paypal, etc. Don't give out your passwords for any reason.

You might want to post back some specs for your system--windows version, computer model number, etc.

Uhh OK. I'm not sure what all that means but go ahead and run the recommended scans. That's the only way we can get an idea of what's going on.
