I have a strange problem with a file which I can’t delete. This file has been a part of attachments which IE downloads with web pages and stores them on the hard drive in the same location in a folder (good examples of such files are the graphics and pictures included in a web page). The original web page has been downloaded from a well known site: search networking definition files and exists on another location on my hard drive. The file I’m having trouble with is a part of a manual backup which I’m trying to delete now. Every time that I delete the parent folder windows gives me this massage:
Can not delete IPSWIT~1.GIF can not find the specified file!!
The file is about 1.71KB big and apparently does not exist in the original downloaded folder. It is in GIF format but with no preview. I have just noticed that Windows does not show any properties for it either!
Any ideas?By the way happy Christmas to all of you

hello
try deleteing it from safe mode.
try d/ling eraser its free and over right it 35 times with random data.

just search the computer for the file and delete it. Goto start search.. type in the name IPSWITCH.gif or whatever full name is, then when it finds it, delete it. Also, if it still won't delete here are 2 options to try, right click on the file and point it to a file you know exsits, like a txt file you create, then right click and delete. (it will think it is the txt file so it won't show the cannot find file) also the final thing to try is to boot to safe mode and delete there make sure you scan for any viruses also...

This is my final post to the tread
The problem is solved. :)
But all not in the usual way:All the following attempts were useless:
-Delete from command prompt
-Delete from safe mode and safe mode command prompt
-delete from the results of search
-overwrite with a txt fileTired of everything I changed the folder name on a hunch because it looked too long.
Well that was it; as soon as I did that everything was back to normal and the deletion like a piece of cake!Point: Internet Explorer comes up with very long name resolutions for attachments to web pages which are apparently unacceptable for windows when the original HTML file is been deleted.
Very Unusual
