I cannot see the contents of my folders

February 20, 2011 at 14:29:39
Specs: Windows Vista
When I click 'my computer', or 'control panel' or on folders and shortcuts....the contents look empty.

But, if I right click on the area, hit properties, and then click customize and click choose file I can see the contents of picture folders.

Other threads talked about running regedit and looking for a hidden and adding 1. But the default was 1 when I checked it. Also, I run mcaffe and it has no viruses detected.

Any idea whats up?

Open My Computer, Tools > Folder Options > View & click on > Restore Defaults.

Click Apply, then OK.

When I press on my computer a window opens with no tabs at the top nor anything in the window.

In the browser space is a computer icon an a triangle arrow, the word computer and another triangle arrow. So there's no way to apply the first fix.

It's similar in all my folders...like a blank browser is opended. The browser I use is google chrome and the internet works ok. If I do the thing in the original post...where I can see the picture or file...it will not open in the window. But I can drag it to the desk top and open the file.

Anymore suggestions?

"Anymore suggestions?"

Not without you uploading to a site of your choice, screenshots of everything you have just said.

Have you run a full scan?

Then try a system file check. In Win7, Start/Run/cmd, type sfc /scannow

Next would be to try a system restore. Control panel/ action center / restore to earlier time.
