I knew things were probably not going to be good when everyone started warning not to download a new application on Facebook that allowed users to see who was viewing their profile but the warning came after i had done just that.

I immediately started changing passwords on my facebook acct. and my bank account. Very distinctive things began to happen. My browser
ran very slow. Pages took forever to load and going from page to page would produce the CANT FIND THIS SERVER screen with the try again button. Clicking the button would ultimately get you the page you wanted but you had to go through this everytime.

I pulled out everything i had and ran scans. Avast and Malwarebytes found nothing. I downloaded Spyware Doctor trial. It showed a few adware tracking cookies. Kaperskys TDS rootkit removing tool found 5 or 6 registry entries and a forgery but Super anti-spyware came in with the trojan.agents in several different versions.

I would remove all of this and reboot...when I rebooted some same things would be right back and then some new. I ran the virus and malware programs over and over and at the end of the day, removed and rebooted. After the restart, the machine stuck on the blue HP screen with Pentium4 logo.

I tried to prompt boot devices but nothing happened so I ESC to try to get to BIOS. Nothing. Frustrated, I got up made my self a sandwich..in 10 minutes the BIOS screen has appeared but then my cheap aftermarket USB keyboard couldn't effect any selection to get around in BIOS. I kept punching F1 to get into a boot....nothing and about 10 minutes later, the black boot screen appears and I select WINDOWS XP..etc.. It seems to take forever but I finally get the blue WELCOME screen, which by the way, became a split screen with the administrator icon on the right side that had me click to open things up -- MY START UP WAS NEVER CONFIGURED THAT WAY BUT BEGAN AFTER THE FACEBOOK VIRAL DOWNLOAD.

SO NOW, HERE I AM WITH THE COMPUTER UP AND RUNNING SINCE YESTERDAY. I completed another round of scans and none shows anything but some adware tracking cookies.I am afraid to shut the thing down for fear it will never come up again. I haven't got another complete Sunday to blow on fouling with this machine.

i HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN OVER A YEAR AGO and came to this or some other board where a kid had the same problem and would use two keys top initiate a normal start up which somehow reconfigured the start up process. I followed the info and it worked! BUT I CAN'T FIND THE TRICK ANY WHERE IN MY BOOKMARKS...

Wondering if anyone knows that one or what I might do to get this back to normal? Thanks.

Try a clean install of XP or Win7. Hope you kept a backup drive.
