Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program. Install ewido security suite When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck.. Install background guard Install scan via context menu Launch ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it. The program will now open to the main screen. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files: On the left hand side of the main screen click update. Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful") If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido. ewido manual updates Once the updates are installed, do the following: Click on scanner. Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin. While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean files, click OK. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK. Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at the bottom of the screen named Save Report. Click Save Report. Now save the report .txt file to your desktop. Follow Bob's instructions for Ewido. Reboot into safe mode and Open KillBox. Then select the "Replace on Reboot" option. Copy and Paste this entry to the "Full Path of File to Delete" box: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSPZK.EXE When you select "Replace on Reboot", the "Use Dummy" option will highlight. Click the "Use Dummy" option (Click "Use Dummy" for the following files also). Click the red circle with the white X. When the confirmation message appears, you will need to click Yes. A second message will ask to Reboot now? You will need to click No. Then Copy and past this entry to the "Full Path of File to Delete" box: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMEFP.EXE Again, click the red circle with the white X. I'm sensing trouble. Via windows explorer I see a folder in the c: path called "!Killbox". The last time I clicked on it (before running fixewareout and ewido), Norton triggered an alert saying it could not fix it. Anyway... found "fixewareout" using windows explorer and ran the "FixIt.Bat" executable. It ran HT and the 017's were already gone. I was prompted to NOT save the HT log file (??) I went into safe mode and ran Ewido. Looking better, before doing the following post a HT log please. Go to start>my computer>local dick(c:) and doublr click !killbox>double click log>then deletet the .log file. Next I thought fix_howiper.exe was something you had run to try to get rid of howiper.exe. We deleted it in the first round with killbox and it did not show up in the second blacklight scan. Reboot in to safe mode and try to delete it this way:Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste this: C:\Documents and Settings\me\Desktop\fix_howiper.exe Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Now run Ewido once more from safe mode and post it's log and a new HT log.

Much better, looks like a clean log. You should clean up system restore.For instructions on how to purge system restore click Here. To create a new restore point go Start>Run>type "msconfig" without the quotes>ok>Launch System Restore>Tick the circle beside "create a restore point">next>name it anything you wish>Create>home>restart the computer. You may want to do a google search for"spywareblaster", download,install and update. Then update weekly. Runs all the time in the back ground so you don't have to actually run the program. Also need to update your java to 1.5

Up until this event, I have been running AdAware at the end of every day... and also using SpyBot S&D's tea-timer, which blocks all registry changes (or so it seems). Can I (or should I) run spywareblaster IN ADDITION TO these? or INSTEAD OF these? "confortably dumb"

Don't know how much help I can be here, but that Howiper.exe is trouble. I've been infected with it about 4 or so times now. I just do a manual removal from MS-DOS mode (I use Win ME) followed by a registry restore. Spybot and Ad-aware don't seem to recognize it or block it. Anyone know anything that will block it besides a firewall? Also, it comes from a different site each time. It puts a few files in the C:\WINDOWS directory and a bunch of EXE's into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM (for Windows 9x, system32 for NT I think).
