I just bought a used laptop in which it belong to a student. She can't remember the last password she had and I want to reset it in order to administer my username and password.

That sounds real fishy to me, people usually write down their passwords. As you said...laptop...that usually rings a stolen bell.

If it is legitimate, you may contact the brand's homepage and check their tech support...I see that somehow you forgot to put in the name, model number of the laptop in question.
Be sure to have the serial number for the support as they will check on it for you.

Laptops have that built in security for when they get stolen so it cannot be accessed by the thief. If it is a bios password even changing out the HD will not work.

I wouldn't bother trying to buy software to retreive the password or blank it out...they just do not work...get the person to rack their brain and come up with the password for you....they know which passwords they use, don't let her kid you.

EDIT: Some new members will probably give you links to password cracks, but that is against forum rules ;-)
