Subject: How to get rid of SeekSeek? OS: win98se CPU/Ram: 600MZ / 192

Comment: I,too, installed Spy Hunter and it detected SeekSeek in my registry keys just like Bryskip. (I have win98se, too.) Also, my SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware did not find it. I tried the solutions suggested but no help there. I got the same exact results bryskip got when I followed Mr. Charlies advice. And Spy Sweeper didn't find it either. Can I manually remove this from my registry keys? Also, I've read that Spy Hunter actually installs this SeekSeek hijacker so that you have to pay to get it removed. Any truth to that?

Reply: (edit)Thank you Mr. Charlie; However, your solution "SeeIfThisWorks" does not. My situation is exactly like bryskip. (See:"Is SeekSeek a Parasite or ???"- it's on the 3rd page of the Security and Virus forum). The HKEYS mentioned in your solution are different form the HKEY identified by SpyHunter. Here is the the supposed SeekSeek HKEY: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{57A0E747-3863-4D20-A811-950C84F1DB9B} Also,I forgot to mention earlier, Bazooka didn't pick it up either. That's 4 spyware programs that didn't find this hi-jacker.

Reply: (edit)First make sure you uninstall Spy Hunter. Then go to Start , Find, Files/Folders and search for Spy Hunter, make sure everything is off the computer. Then do a good registry clean up using RegCleaner 4.3. Go to Tools, Registry Cleanup, Do Them All, delete all it finds, don't worry backups are made. Run you Spyware and AV programs again, then clean up the temp stuff as outlined below. Clean up the system also (this is for 98 and ME but should be close for XP) Open up IE, from the drop down menu choose Tools, Internet Options, Delete Temporary Internet Files and cookies. (cookies optional) Go to Start, Run, type temp , delete all the files in that folder Do the same for recent Delete all the .tmp and .chk files you can find. To do so, click Start/Find and in the search box (field) type *.tmp and this will search for all your temporary files. Repeat for chk files by typing *.chk in the search field, make sure you are looking in 'C'. Empty recycle bin. Reboot, see if problem is still there, if so post a HiJackThis scan of your system to clean up the rest of it. HiJackThis and Instructions

Reply: (edit)Hello Mr. Charlie; I ended up manually removing the supposed SeekSeek Hi-jacker from my registry keys. (of course- I made a back up first.) RegCleaner didn't find the SeekSeek HKEY but, I did clean up some old stuff that I wasn't using. Thanks for your help.

Reply: (edit)This is a new question. I am confident I know how to get rid of the Seek-Seek virus, my question is this: Is the code HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{57A0E747-3863-4D20-A811-950C84F1DB9B} a valid virus code. Iwould hate to delete it only to find out that it was part of my original operating system. Can anyone verify this code? I got it off the SpyHunter free adware and then found it in my registery. If it is legitimate, it looks quite easy to delete. Just in case anyone wants to know how, I located the code using the following method: I have windows 98. (I know it is outdated). I clicked on (1) start (2) run (3) typed in "regedit" (4) Got the registery (5) Clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and got an expand command (6) Clicked on expand (7) Went down the list until I came upon "Interface" (8) Went down the codes until I came upon HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{57A0E747-3863-4D20-A811-950C84F1DB9B} Now all I have to do is delete it, but I want some assurance that this is indeed a bad code. I know I have a homepage hijacker in my system and according to the Spyhunter adware this is the code. I picked the virus up when my nephew signed me up for AOL's Instant Messenger. It took me two days and several reboots before I got my old homepage back. Can anyone help? Thanks If you reply by email, please do not send your comments in an attachment. I don't open attachments as a rule. Again Thanks. Dana
