Hello,
A month ago I noticed my web browser IE was having problems: toolbar looked totally different it was as if it had been hijacked + tons of pop-up ads. This was happening while Norton Internet Security did not notice anything wrong. Also, I was downloading my windows updates regularly. I downloaded Spyware and it got rid of most of the stuff. But I still decided to use a different browser and downloaded MYIE2 browser.
Did not think much more about it until two weeks ago when got pop-up window from Norton saying that it found Download.Trojan in file (C:\Docume~1\locals~1\temp\69.tmp, other variations like ….temp\6C.tmp and ….temp\6F.tmp). Norton said could not repair, quarantine etc…Got instructions from Norton on how to deal with problem but I am not sure if I’m Trojan free. I use Windows XP, IE 6. It recommended the following to try to eliminate trojan:
Disable System restore: Did
Update virus definition: Did
Restart comput in Safe mode: Did
Run a full system scan and delete files: Did - Norton found NO Viruses !!
Clear Internet Explorer history and files : Done – however it turns out in the hidden files there are lots of temp (tmp) but that I cannot delete (says file being used by other user?!)The issue is I think there is still a problem: IE is now encountering problems and is forced to close right and left. MYIE2 browser doesn’t work any more. Also, I decided to download Netscape and when I want to set it up the window says :
File Mail…
URL…. (Nestcape)
To path : C:\Docume~1\locals~1\temp\ns_temp\gre-win or, ….\ns_temp\browser or …\ns_temp\mail.xpi
This path does not make any sense to me and it strangely resembles the address where Trojan was found. I have since then downloaded Adaware and Spybot, both of which have found some minor things but not solved issue. Can anyone help me with this problem?
Thanxx
Zebi

try using avg for virus removal. It works better than Norton's. I hav Norton's and didn't detect anything yet avg did. Its free and works much better than Nortons. Try that and see if it helps detect anything. You must take Norton's out though before installing new virus program....let me know if it works.

Hello Crys,
Thanks for your advice.I installed AVG and it didn't just find one trojan, not 2, but 4! So that's a relief! In the test results it also indicates 14 other files that it cannot open and therefore has not checked. Could they be potentially harmful? How can we open them?
Thanks!!
Zebi
