How to get rid of a virus which won't allow m

May 16, 2011 at 01:31:32
Specs: Windows XP
I have a fake computer scanning warning on my notebook which pops up offering to scan my computer for viruses and then asks me to purchase their package. When I try to go into any applications including restore system it blocks me. How can I get around this. I was advised to go into accessories, system tools and then restore system, but like I say virus blocks me. Would really appreciate some help and advice on this.

Boot to Safemode WITH NETWORKING, then try scanning with Malwarebytes (be sure your copy of MWB is updated).... before trying the system restore route.

If that will does not back the EXACT message you get when you try to open an application.

If you are getting errors when executables are run, or, executables are blocked from running, do the following:

Download exeHelper to your Desktop (select only one link):

Double-click on to run the fix.
A black window should pop up.
Press any key to close once the fix is completed.

>Please post the contents of exehelperlog.txt in your reply.<

(The log is created in the directory/folder where, or, exeHelper.scr is found, and opens at the end of the scan.)

Note that MalwareBytes will run if you change the exe to either bat or cmd (both the download and the program exe's).

Please come back and let us know the outcome.
