how to close the netbios port?

hi i made a scan to my home pc and i just found an open port . port 139 the netbios serves how could i close this port? how could i know the program which open any port? my os is windows me . thanks in advance

The easy way would be to get either a router with a firewall to block access to it, or use a software firewall like zonealarm, which will tell you anytime a program on your system tries to open a port.
But you can change the status of this port to closed (not stealth or hidden) by following the methods discussed on the GRC.COM web site. See his Shields up tests. Then his Network bondage pages on how to close all the Network BIOS ports. It requires some change to the bindings of your Network adapters and TCP/IP and the Client software. Too complicate to describe here. So see the writeup on GRC.com

asad, follow Jack's advice about going to http://www.grc.com/ When you are on the "Shieldsup" page scroll down to "free stuff", and he offers a "netbios tool". Be sure to test your firewall using "Shieldsup" for all service ports. GRC"s test reports are accurate, unlike many others that I have seen that are available that indicate it is open, when in fact it is not.
