I was on my Win2k PC at home and noticed that when I did a netstat -a there was a certain TCP port open that is commonly used for backdoors. I am certain that I have not downloaded anything unusual. Is there a way that I can close a specific TCP port?? Or is there a way that I can find out which program uses which TCP port?

What firewall do you use? You should easily be able to close it with your firewall. All the best!

A port is considered open if it accepts information, like a ping request or an http request. A port is considered closed if it does not accept this information. If this is the case, the computer with the closed port sends a message back to the computer trying to contact it saying that it will not accept information on that port.
Now if you follow the above advice you will be able to secure your system.
