Hello Everyone,
It has been a common practice for me to find trojans or a virus in the documents&settings sector. How do they keep getting in this area and how do they accomplish this. Anything I download from the net I scan, but they still have the ability to drop some malware in my machine. I can't figure out how they accomplish this. I notice at times the pulsing prompt all of a sudden the hour glass appears near the prompt, is this the malware entering my computer, if this is so, then there is no way to prevent contamination from the net. On my machine, the uninvited guest always seems to find a home in docs&set.I thank you in advance for replying to my questions,
frank

I don't have an answer to the process.
Couple of things you can do to help.
Assuming you have Ad-Aware or some similar malware fixer, download SpywareBlaster because this keeps things out (rather than fixing them).
If you mean "My Documents" then you could simply make some other folder (My Stuff or whatever) and move your docs there instead. They are almost certainly going to go for the known MS folders.

Hello Derek,
When the virus scan reports an intrusion, it starts out indentifying the area as document&settings but can't see which is the specific folder. I know it is the this ds area.

Apologies, I'm still a 9x type (uggh). Realised my error after posting....
Maybe one of the more go ahead folk can see if there is some way to achieve this, assuming they feel the idea has any merit at all on XP.
Meantime I'll keep shovelling the coal into my machine and winding it up every morning.

since i see no answer to your question, frank, i will toss in my 3 dollars worth.
most trojan,worms,viruses...that come off interent automaticly go into temp files...being that as it may......this is why its always under.
documents and settings...user...name..local settings...temp files..
normally this file is hidden under winxp..a good thing to keep in mind is to unhide it and place a desktop shortcut so u can quickly scan that folder or delete stuff manually.
good day.

Thank you Viruskiller101,
A manual sweep of this area is a mustas leaving the net. VK101 is there any software that can cleanse this folder such a cookie killer or spyware remover that can clean this junk too.I thank you and Derek again for your help and information,
frank
