I play online games at a site called flipside.com. recently, i was banned from the site due to policy infractions (I may of used some unsavory language, im not sure). Now when i try to log back in, it says my system has been banned.

I've deleted all cookies from that site and even removed its AD-cache with ad aware. Still, i cant get in! I'd like to know how this site knows my system. What does it use to recognize me, and deny me. What other means besides cookies is it using? My IP number? Im not sure. I'm not so much trying to find out how to get back in, im basically trying to figure out how they are recognizing my system. What is giving me away?

ip number/hostname/computer name.
one way to findout if its ip/hostname is download a browser like mozilla, from mozilla.org and try to get in, if you do
then you know something they put in ie
like a certificate, or something.

Hehe, this is one of the best posts I've ever seen!

I'm proud of you, my friend, wanting to cheat around the system. Let me help you.

I assume you're already not trying to login with your same name...because...well..its pretty obvious that they've marked your login name as "banned" =)

To really figure out whats going on, I would try one of 2 things.

First, try logging on from a differnet computer. There's no way they can distinguish you from some other user that way (they may have banned all the the 255 class C IP addresses from your internet service provider...so to be safe, you may want to also use a different ISP from this other computer).

Or second, try a packet sniffer, such as the one found at www.ethereal.com If you watch carefully, you can see just what information is sent to them, and what they use to verify you. It doesn't state where this info came from on your hard drive, but you can probably figure that out with some investigating. If you can't figure it out, you could also put a packet sniffer on another computer, and track that successful login. Then compare the two, the rejected log file, and the successful log file, and you should see subtle differences that will show you why its rejecting you.

Well, maybe that sounds like too much work. Perhaps somebody will come up with a better suggestion.

Install AOL from one of the freebie disks and you can at least get 1000 more hours at the site :).

Imagine your whole isp being banned from a website because you used profanity in a forum.

Create a new user identity at a new ISP and then you can log in.

But depending on how they have been logging/tracking/cooking you at their site, you MAY be able to create a NEW ID at a friend's PC.

ITS NOT THE ISP! I downloaded a free isp named metconnect. I went to the site after i spoofed my ip. When i tried to log in under a new screen name, it wouldnt even load!!!! I deleted all cookies, even IE cook's.

Ive come to the conclusion that it recognizes the system through ad caches, im not sure. Im going to get that packet sniffer u mentioned and then compare the files like u said. Im just so damn curious as to what it could be. not cookies, not the ad cache, AND NOT THE IP!!!!! looks like i'll be up all nite figuring this one out. thanks again!!!!!

You download the win32 one of course. the link is here
http://www.ethereal.com/distribution/win32/

You'll need to download and install the WinPCap first. Then you can install ethereal 0.9.7.

To run it, click on capture, start. Select PPP for modem, or your network card thats connecting to the internet. Then, let it run. Press stop when you're done. It should take a while, and then it will display the results. If it displays a blank screen, press the reset button on the bottom.

To see a lengthy communication put together, find a TCP or HTTP protocol packet, highlight the line, right mouse click on it, and select "Follow TCP stream" that will combine all the packets related to that communication.

Remember that this is ported over from linux, so it doesn't have the nice windows User Interface feel to it.

Remember, this test will probably be pointless unless you can compare it with a working login.

hello.... dude i bet that you are using windows xp or nt.
Do you know that microsoft can know anytime you are conected to the internet whatever you are doing? have you ever scanned yourself with a port scanner and found several ports opened to microsoft saying its for "auto updates" and stuff like that, but how do you KNOW what that port is doing? and even when you try closing it manually or by means of a program you cannot close it because you are using MICROSOFT's OS, they made it bro, you CAN close it but its too long to explain here, its kinda hard too.
Also, if you go to your main drive, e.g. C:\
and you unhide the system folders( in xp ) you go to the system volume information and then you see 2 things, 1 is a tracking log file which shows you like 5 letters but its 20 kb big... and the other one is the "restore" folder, go in that and check out every folder in it and youll see everything that has been installed in your computer since you remember...even though you use Evidence-Eliminator or things like that to delete "all" evidence. well, this is getting long and boring and i bet you ppl are tired of reading so ill stop now

Im one of the people that prays every night before he goes to bed that Microsoft is collecting data about everyone via XP.

If my prayers are answered.. someday microsoft will let the cat out of the bag in an attempt to seek legal action or spam someone and there company will be broken up after the stock falls to the floor during the investigation of privacy invasion. Big business and politicians use the internet too.

Then.. maybe we will be able to buy just an OS then just a browser & just a firewall instead of integrated apple wanna be 2 year old technology that doesnt work till a year later after the first second and third service packs are applied... Just in time for the new version to be released.

On the other hand.. I love IE :).

"BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING"

Ya right, how many people do you think work for MS? How many Uber PC's would it take to even monitor(let alone read) 31+ BILLION daily E-mails a day never mind peek in on what porno sites people are visiting.

Even the mighty US government is months behind scanning for just keywords in known bad guys communications. They could care less about us.

It's paranoid and ridiculous.
