Comment: How do web sites get my email address, and how do I stop it? The other day I was looking at smoking pipes, a couple days later I get spam about buying cigarettes. Yesterday I was looking at MCSE bootcamps, today I get spam from computer schools.

Reply: (edit)A firewall may help to keep the nosey sites out. Zone Alarm works for me and it's free... www.zonealarm.com PS it also logs who tries to search your PC!

Reply: (edit)I never allow cookies unless it is a sight that I really need to go to such as yahoo, or hotmail to check emails, and if you go to chat rooms or sites where you can play games, etc. And as soon as i leave any of those type of sites I delete my cookies and go back and disable them until i need them again, the only inconvineince is that you will have to re enter your password again. But I don't mind. also if you surf with java and active x and such it will allow all those crappy pop ups, michael2 is right a good firewall like zone alarm (i use the pro version) will allow to block ads and most pop ups and you can even block ip addresses if so desired...I love this site...

Reply: (edit)If your firewall doesn't filter that stuff, try SpyBlocker. It isn't freeware(less than $20)and it's not a conventional popup killer. But it blocks spyware, cookies, ads, scripts etc..I use it every time I surf.I'm "cheap" and I bought it!Just enter Spyblocker in a search and check it out.You can get a trial version that is fully functional.Hope this helps.JB
