If you think you may be being hacked you can get the free firewall program Zonealarm. It allows you to dictate what is transfered between your PC and the net. You can keep hackers out, or at least make it difficult for them to get in... www.zonealarm.com If I have mis-understood your problem....

Before installing firewall, antivirus or anything... first take a look to the way you are using a computer... the problem is right there!
NEVER accept attachment files until you exactly know what it is. Do not open email comming from unknown peoples.

Gee, Danny - how do you know "how Liz is using the computer"?
Your advice is sound, but I don't understand the first sentence.
Liz, I am not sure what hacktoolflooder is, but you might want to check for trojans etc. You can download "Dr.Web" or PestPatrol trial versions and scan for trojans, also AdAware from: http://www.lavasoft.nu/downloads.html
