when i was on the phone with dell we started up in safe mode with networking. I went on the internet and they told me it would cost me to fix it and i don't have the money. the virus protection started scaning but the virus stops it from scanning.

My question was whats the error message you get when you boot normally ( Not Safe Mode), Are you able to boot normally? If you cant boot normally, did you try to restore your system to an earlier date when the system was working properly? To restore the system to an earlier date>> log in Safe mode>>If you are using windows 7, go to Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System restore. Follow the prompts.

Hope this will help you.

Once you succeed with System Restore you can run your antivirus to detect the virus, if any. I am sorry i wont be available after sometime.....Its 11.30 pm right now in Kuwait..:-)....So try it out....after all you are not losing anything by trying.

Dump McAfee & replace it with this:

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_E...

And don't post your e-mail address in an open forum unless you enjoy getting spammed.

Thank you to all who helpped me. Last night I ran a defrag and this morning when I got up the screen was blank with a ? in the lower right corner of the screen. It said that in the near future the harddrive was going to faile. Well as yall know dell said the problem was due to a software issue and we would need to buy a warranty or pay a one time fee because we only bought extended warranty for hardware. Well I guess they will have to work on it with out a software warranty after all.

Smiles...

I had something very similiar to this. However, somehow, all my restore points were deleted, and whenever I try to open up anything such as control panel or recovery, this message pops up:
The server process could not be started because the identity is incorrect. Check the username and password.
Additionally, I used MSConfig to start in safe mode, (I have a USB Keyboard) and I cant find it anymore now.
