Hello all, I got this horrible Spyware, i just got internet at my new apartment and just when i connected the cable i got this popup:
Messenger Service
Message from SYSTEM to ERROR on 9/19/205 6:41:30 PMSTOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION
Windows has found Critical Errors
to fix the errors please do the followig:
1. Download Registry Repair from: http://www.pcscan32.comand so on. I tried google nothing, i tried updating spybot, spyblaster...scanning nothing, im updating windows xp critical updates...but im sure nothing is gonna happen...and its a popup that comes up every 10min I guess....what can I do? Has anybody heard of this? thanks!

Turn off the messenger service in XP:
1. Click on the Start button and open the control panel.
2. Open the Performance and Maintenance control panel and go to Administrative Tools.
3. Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable.or

Although you don't mention being networked with anyone, spending the few dollars on a router will stop that message and prevent a host of other problems.
Now that you have joined the broadband community, you have also become a prime target for evil doers the world over.
The router will help with that problem also.
Additionally, download "SpyBot Search & Destroy" and "AdAware SE".
Learn Internet Security and get religious about it!
Embrace paranoia, they ARE out to get you!

Haha thanks a lot guys, I fixed it. Apparently updating Windows XP worked, in any case...I'll consider the router and turning off the windows message option. Thanks guys!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I have been having this problem with my computer for several days now and have tried everything and some besides to get rid of the problem. All to no avail til I followed the advice you gave. Oh, by the way- I downloaded your "shoot the messenger" but I still feel more like shooting the perpetrator of those error messages!

Shutting down the messenger service certainly solves the problem. BUT, how the hell are 'they', the incidious b---tards actually doing it? Obviously they get your IP from somewhere or something ie. spyware.
Does anyone have a clue which piece of malware is the originator, or which company is distributing my IP?
Then get a few (thousand) disgruntled users together and see how they like 'denial of service' [he he]
I will keep researching this until I find a solution, or more importantly an address of the pricks. Maybe VisualTrace?
