Hello there,
I was wondering if you could offer some help. I have been trying to service a pc for a friend and found that it was loaded with viruses, spyware and adware. I have managed to get it running smoothly again using Adaware, spyguard, spybot search and destroy, spysweeper and CWS shredder. The problem is that I cannot regain control of the home page. I have checked and it is not locked, so that is not the problem but I have noticed that Spysweeper still finds three problems; Altnet, coolwww and cydoor but it does not seem to fix them.
The home page constantly defaults to res://xqesz.html#37049 . There are numerous references to this in the registry and in hijack this but I am not sure how to fix them. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

If they're listed in 'Hijackthis', then try selecting them & get HJT to fix them - that's what it's for after all

To remove the entries with HijackThis, place check marks by the ones you want to remove, then click "fix checked". If you need more help, click the homepage link under my name.

Goto internet properties and see if that site is listed in the "Trusted sites" under security tab. If so, remove it. ( I had the same prob.)
