I suspected that my computer had a virus so I recently acquired norton professional 2004. The pre-install scanner ran, and didn't detect anything, but the installation hit an error and could not complete.I downloaded AVG and ran it, and it found 8 viruses and was able to get rid of 5. However, it was unable to move the following to the Virus vault:
Trojan horse PSW.Dumarin.G
Dropper.Inor
Trojan horse Revop.BI've looked for instructions for removal, and followed one set (for removal of dumarin.G) of them closely, but at the end AVG still could not move that virus to the virus vault...I suspect that one of these viruses are the cause of why I cannot install Norton 2004.
I would really, really appreciate any help at all, and would be extremely grateful, as I've tried to rid myself of these viruses by myself, but have failed.
Please help, and I thank anybody in advance.

I was just hit by Win32:Afcore. It is a rehash of previous versions. Spyware did not pick it up so I started looking it up. Symantec (Nortons) has no info on it. Neither does McAfee's.
Hate to say this but it seems you spend good money and never get what you pay for anymore.
I did find the solution by downloading the free antivirus from Avast.
If you can get online do it.

When you install it go to a high scan, but do not turn on the resident protection option, until after you've cleaned up your computer.
Another bookmark for this like this is
http://www.F-Secure.comThey are swedish, but boy do they come up with the virus/worms/trojans fast...long before the big seller boys (aka: Nortons/McAfees).
After this lil' episode I definitely won't be buying more Nortons.
Good Luck and hope this does it for you.

P.S.: Don't forget to d/l Spybot - Search and Destroy and Spyblaster & Spyguard. You can find those at www.download.com

hi immortal,
try this:
disable system restore to flush out your system restore folder of virus.
get your latest virus defs.
reboot to safe mode, scan your machine with your anti-virus, adaware, spybot, and anti-trojan if you have one. delete all files they come up with. clean your cache, temp files, and history and cookie folders, clean your recycle bin.
reboot to normal mode, re enable your system restore.
all the best,
murve
