I need help!! Ran Spybot, got pretty big list of spyware / hijackers. Went thru Spybot "fix selected problems", rebooted, rescanned, got "no problems". Opened internet explorer, and couldn't open any webpage. It says "page not found, check settings, etc, etc". Soooo, I ran spybot recovery tool, and recovered all spyware I just removed. Now I can get back on webpages. Needless to say, something listed below in my hijackthis log has certainly hijacked my browser so that, when removed, will not allow me to browse the web. HELP! Thanks in advance to all you techies that I'm sure know what I need to do. Here's my HijackThis logfile:

Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. CWShredder did find 3 infected ones, but after running spybot again, the same thing still happens. Any other ideas?

Here's another thing:
My system resources are being used at a huge rate! Have 2 SVCHOST.exe running under SYSTEM...one is at a constant 00, the other is on fire!...from 55-65. Earlier today, Services21.exe was doing the same thing. HELP!!

Tom41,
Found out the problem wound up being trojan.bootconf and backdoor.hazzer. For whatever reason, Norton didn't catch them. I decided to hang my hard drive off another computer and scan that way. It found them. My question now becomes this... can't find any information on a file called services21.exe. It isn't showing up in my hijackthis log, but it is running on my computer, and is listed as a windows startup file. Do you know what this is??? Thanks!

We have been having problems with this at the ITS. Make sure you are in safe mode First go into c--windows--system32 you need to look for services21.___, services32.___, winhlpp.___, chack and make sure they were created recently (right-click, propeties),make sure you have file extensions showing, and rename them to .pdf , then copy them to a folder ytou craete on the desktop called virus, and delete it. then go into the registry and search for all the files you just deleted, (minus the extension) and delete them, norton is JUST now (like 1 min ago) detecting this as w32.hllw.gaobot.gen
have fun

Re: your original message, I suspect the missing file was:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netpals.dll
Fsecure identifies this as having a backdoor virus on my system.
If I choose disinfect, it still gets reported as a virus every time I start explorer, I have to disinfect each time. When I deleted the file experienced the same symptoms as you.
Recovered networking capabilities by deleting the network adaptor and reinstalling it, after trying system state restore from windows backup, roll back to an earlier restore point, and repair from Win XP cd, all to no avail.
Network now working, but whatever perpetuates the existence of this virus file is obviously still present somewhere. Still trying to find out what causes this.
