Greetings;

My husband turned on our computer xmas morning to find our AVG Anti-Virus had detected a virus, which it could not remove.
I have run various online scans on the system, and none of them have detected the virus'.
A google search for the names of the 2 virus' (Downloader.Dyfica.H and Downloader.Dia.A) has let me find out I need to post a HiJack This log, and get some kind-hearted computer deity to sort me out.

I've have run Ad-Aware (updated), and SpyBot (updated), which had me reboot to remove some of the icky things, and now I have my HiJack this log.

As a side note, my husband went out today and bought the T3 Tungsten he's been saving for, and his &*^$%$ of a wife (me) won't let him install his software until the virus' are gone, so if someone could analyse my log ASAP, you will be making my life a lot less grump-filled. :-)

Also, our Outlook Express mail program has been locking up when we launch it for about 2 weeks. We've been accessing our server online to read our mail, because reinstalling the program hasn't worked. Perhaps the clue to our troubles with Outlook also lie in this log?

Thank you in advance for your help.
JaynaD

Just a comment- - You have a lot of things running that I don't think you would normally need at startup. I would recommend you go into MSCONFIG and see what startup items you can uncheck to keep them from starting at boot up, e.g: The printer, Adobe Acrobat, Quicken just for three. These all slow down your computer, especially, (if I remember correctly)with Win ME.

Thanks, John.
I know a bit here and there about computers (just enough to get into trouble), so I choose the "typical" install for my new software, and if that puts it into my start up menu, I don't know any better, and figure that it needs to start then.
Perhaps you could answer another question for me about start up menu items ... I have a lot of things I've unchecked by going into msconfig, but is there some way I can get rid of those lines altogether in my startup menu check list?
It's looking very messy with checked and unchecked stuff.
Thanks again,
Jayna

I'm loath to answer your question. Only had ME for a few days (factory preinstalled) and then formatted and installed 98SE. The answer for ME is more than likely the same as for 98SE, but it's been a long time---. Better wait for someone using it or with a better memory.

Thanks to anyone who has pondered this. I've received my answer, used HiJackThis to delete 5 lines from my log, rebooted in safe mode to remove an entire file, and rescanned with AVG ... NO VIRUS' (woot)!

Hope everyone enjoys the holiday season!

"used HiJackThis to delete 5 lines from my log, rebooted in safe mode to remove an entire file"

What were the lines and file removed?
