I recently got a nice little package of viruses (5) which norton all caught and got ride of. My problem is every time i start Explorer it keeps tacking me to the same web page. nvsgqo.outhost.info (the first part of this always changes) but no webpages show. i try to change my homepage and it keeps coming back. i deleted the entries from registry but they keep coming back. I have CW shredder but it will not show up and and tried to use off floppy, network and cd but still wont show up to use. I tried to dowload hijack his and when i use save option it says cant be saved to disk and when i use open option it downloads fine but nothing ever shows up. I tried to run Nrton again but my compturer freezes when using it or online scanners but i ran it from another comp. on my netowrk and it didnt pick up anything. adware doesnt find it. any ideas. thanks in advance.

Get a good spyware remover, you will find some at http://www.anti-trojan.org
That should remove it. If you still have trouble, get hold of a program called hijack this

Dear all, i have the same problem, with some minor difference, my Internet Explorer keeps tracking me to jrpryf.outhost.info. Furthermore is the "virus" shutting down my registry and some internet pages automatically. However in "safe mode" modus I can change entries in the registry. I downloaded Webroot as discribed above, but after a full removal the problem persists.
This is the nastiest fellow I ever had, please help if possible

I understand your frustration!! I've been there!! First of all, I literally threw Norton in the trash. I use AVG which you can get from the April 21 2004 posting at Bubdaddy's Secret Place (http://Bubdaddy.blogspot.com/)

Norton seemed to always jam up Windows.

Next...for your other problem...most of the free software listed by other posters doesn't actually destroy the offending hijackers, spies, and other pests. They always come back. Here's a copy of a post I've placed in reply to several people with similar problems to yours:

If you really want to get rid of Zestyfnd, CoolWWW, LopDotCom, Zedo, TribalFusion, Cool Web Search, Home OldSP, DOOM VIRUS WARNING popups, and ALL of the other hijackers, spyware, adware, popups, go to
http://bubdaddy.blogspot.com/

Read the April 21, 2004 post. I've tried all of the "fixes" everyone in this and many other forums suggested, but nothing worked PERMANENTLY until I bought GhostSurf Pro.

The stuff like Cool Web Shredder, Spy Blaster, and all of the others, worked temporarily, but 4-5 hours later, my home page had been hijacked again!

I still use Lavasoft's Ad-aware, but have now gotten rid of all of the other defense programs. I can go into the Ghost Surf Privacy Center and see who has placed what on my PC and if I don't want them to have any info about me, I block them. It's that simple...and they remain blocked forever.

It enables you to shred your browsing history, and even enables you to surf via anonymous hubs, should you want to do that. You can mask your IP address, and just disappear from the home page hijackers.

Even if you visit the occasional "naughty site" you can do so anonymously, and remove all traces of your naughtiness, and more importantly, you cn block all of the crap they will dump on your computer.

You can fool around forever with free software (like I did), or you can spend $30.00 and be done with all of the bother.

There is a link on the BUBDADDY'S site above which takes you to the publisher of GhostSurf. If you order it from someone other than the publisher, OR, if you find it for less on the internet, you may be purchasing software with malicious code embedded in it.

It's been over a week and I haven't seen any Zestyfind, or CoolWWW or any other pests, and I haven't updated anything...GhostSurf does it all for me.

I had the same problem, the best advice I can give you, (if you have IE) is to click on the tools button, go to internet options, go to accessibility, where the checkmark box for "Format Documents Using My Style Sheet" make sure it is NOT checked, for this is the flaw the supposed hackers exploit. I found this out through careful websearching, so far I have no problems with my homepage or online searching, I also sugjust you use ad-aware to clear your computer of most spyware.

Hope I could be of help, as always, hackers are nerds, but not the candy nerds, they taste good- not bad

I had the same happen to me. I tried all the things listed here, none of them work. What I found out is you must delete anything in your REGISTRY and on your HARD DRIVE that starts with "hxdef".
