I have downloaded lots of anti-virus packages etc , but to no avail, as infections keep re-surfacing. i have run hi-jack this , adaware, no-adware, coolwebshredder, uninstaller pro, but the home search assistant and dodgy processes keep coming back. thanks in advance for reading this. i'm going mad !

First, hopefully you had System Restore turned off. Second, you were running the utilities in Safe Mode. If not, try it again that way. SR's files cannot be cleaned while SR is running; the files can only be deleted and, with them, any malware which might have been hiding there.

Below is a complete tutorial on how to reverse a browser hijacking. Some things you've probably tried already, some not. At the bottom of the first webpage is an index of catagories.

The tutorial contains more information than can be posted here. 8-)

I got the about:blaster tool from

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip

and that seemed to knock that out fast! I am going to restart right after this to see if it really took care of it. I'll post the answer...

I've tried both HSRemove and AboutBuster, and the instructions aren't very clear - specifically, why do you "write down the name and path of the file in the 'Path to Executable' section"? What do you do with it once you've written it down?
