Comment:

After doing a google search and hitting the desired result i am then sent to a totally unrelated and usually porn site. If I try another hit then I am usually directed to the correct site. This has only been going on for the last couple of days. I havesearched for any unusual .dll files with no joy, as well as running spybot/adaware etc. Any ideas would be greatfully received. Also any ideas as to where the hijacker came from as my teenage children who are to only ones to have been on the net in the last week say it could't have been from a site that they visited (they must think I am a bit naive)

Many thanks

Keith R

Try this
On-line Spyware Scan
and delete everything it finds
Also use
Spyware Blaster

CWShredder
Spyware blaster will be the main one to run and CWShredder will make sure there's no coolweb on your PC. Good Luck

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Don't beat 'em up to bad Keith, that trash can be picked up anywhere nowdays and was most likely picked up on a peer-to-peer site that the kids usually download music from along with other seeming good sites. A shared folder made exempt from your antivirus by asking permission, and required in most cases by the p2p, is the culprit(port of entry).

As noted in response #1, one of the best preventers is spywareblaster. You don't actually run it like a program it runs all the time in the background re-writng spyware script before it can infect your computer.

If you don't get it fixed do this.

You will most likely need to post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor.

Do not fix anthing yet.

I'll review and hopefully post a fix.

You need to choose spyware remover wisely. Usually one remover is not enough. They find and remove different threats. Also its hard to choose, because there are lots of bad products.
Here you can read reviews of various spyware removers.
And this is the list of Bad and not recommended programs called corrupt antispyware
read carefully and choose wisely.
