Comment:

My computer's been very slow lately(it takes me 5 seconds to get a new window open). Some people say that I'm having trojan symptoms. My memory usage has been very high lately. When no programs's
running on the taskbar, my memory usage is about 103,572K!

I've run AdAware, Spybot S&D, McAfee VirusScan, CWShredder, and Trojan Hunter, but they all found nothing(Trojan Hunter is a trial, so I don't know if it's up to date).

I've asked this question in a lot of forums, but I haven't gotten an answer that could help me fix this slowness.
Here's my HijackThis log when all of my programs were running.

Well nothing looks too scary there, I think the problem lies with the number of programs you have running simultaneously at startup and also the amount of RAM that is available.

If your system was running better before the infection. I suggest you backup important data, re-format and re-install windows. That way you can rule out any virus infections causing this and may actually fix the problem within the time it would take to ponder why it has become so slow.

Hope That Helps.

you have a lot of crap running... i see a lot of stuff being loaded in your RUN key and it's not exactly leaving you with much memory...

Thanks, I think I can install XP on this computer after backing things up. One more question. If I install a CD burner on this computer and back up some files to CDs, then after installing XP on this computer, reinstall the CD burner, will the XP become slow?(since it was first installed on my slow 2000)

You're running 2000 on 64MB of RAM,and wondering about being short on memory?

Either I'm missing something here,or you're expecting miracles.Microsoft says 64MB is the minimum required...that usually means you need at least double that.

Running windows XP on a 64MB of RAM is definitely gonna slow down your computer. People running XP on 256 MB RAM are experiencing some lag so you could imagine why your machine may be slow.

Like the TheKid says I think now is a good time to purchase more RAM, I recommend 512+ at this day and age, if you really want to make full use of your PC.

About the CD burner issue, it shouldn't really make your PC any slower or faster on it's own. It's actually how much memory is available for XP to function properly, so the more things you want to run in addition to XP or in the XP environment the more memory it will drain.
