I know that Internet Explorer keeps a Hidden Index.dat files on webpages surfed.

Does Firefox have a hidden file like that? If so, how is it accessed? Can it be deleted?

I had read that everything is stored in the profile. That is:

tools/ options/ privacy/ clear all removes all the FF data that is equivalent to IE index. dat /history/cookies/ etc.

Her is that link:

Is this accurate?

Yes - clearing the Cache on Mozilla and FireFox deletes ALL the files, unlike IE.
