i recently set up a netgear adsl wireless router so i could connect from my laptop. however, when i was setting it up, it gave no guide as to how to set up a password, or how to make it a secure wireless network. i'm rather troubled as i don't want random neighbours logging in to our wireless, can anyone please help me? or maybe guide me in the direction of a website that can?

i would just like to be able to set up a password or key so that when computers log into the network there's some kind of security there,

thank you in advance.

Actually I have a lynksis wireless router, I just called their support and they walked me through setting up the security. There were just a few things I wasn't sure of, so I used their assistance and all works great

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Unless Netgear have changed things in the last 2 years since I setup my wireless network using one of their wireless routers, you should find a comprehensive guide on the CD that came with your modem. The actual settings are accessed through a web browser.

You should find the web page at 192.168.0.1 the username should be "admin" and the default password is "password". Naturally, you should immediately change this password.

Change the network name from the default "Netgear" and disable 'broadcast SSID'. This way you will need to supply the network name in order to connect. Enable encryption, the router should generate keys for you after you supply a word (any word will do) select one set of keys, weite them down and check the button next to the selected keys. Once you have all the computers setup and connected, you should enable mac address filtering.

I should also mention that locking down the wireless network is much easier done using a wired computer which won't be locked out be the changes.
