I have read many blogs from exhausted users who have found themselves in mywebsearch hell. I have tried everything I have read and cannot remove mywebsearch from my computer. I was told by Staples that the only way to be rid of it is to give them $180 to restore the system because it is so completely embedded in everything on my computer. My daughter apparently downloaded a game and mywebsearch went with it! It is making my computer crawl and making me want to fling it and her out the window. Any suggestions

Follow:

1) Install, update database and run full scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Attach malwarebyte full scan log, fix anything detected.

2) Run full Scan with SuperAntispyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/dow... . Fix what it detects and post summary scan log.

I ran the malwarebytes and the log, I am not sending it because there was nothing on it. It says zero items detected and then for each category it says "no malicious items detected". moving on to Superantispyware."

Download OTL to your Desktop

1) Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted (for Vista, right click the icon and Run as Administrator).

2) When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.

3) Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.

4) In the lower right corner of the Top Panel, checkmark "LOP Check" and checkmark "Purity Check".

5) Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

i) When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

ii) Upload both the files to rapidshare.com and post download links.

I don't see any MyWebSearch. Uninstall Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only) and Bonjour. See if that helps.

i uninstalled both and it did not help. every time I search this comes up before the search item in the address bar

http://search.mywebsearch.com/myweb...

so its like I am searching through this mywebsearch. rather than the usual google results I would get, I get a page of ads before the search list. It is the most annoying thing and seems as though it is going to be impossible to remove. Do you think the tech was right and that it needs an entire system restore?

Firefox or IE?

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #1

1) Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.

2) To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).

3) When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.

4) GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

i uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled. In the process I discovered that if I use IE it does not go to mywebsearch. When I reinstalled firefox it went right back to mywebsearch.

Thank you for your help, I guess this is a helpless situation.

it occured to me that when I uninstalled firefox there was a box unchecked that said "remove all information" or something liek that. I removed firefox without checking that box, I jsut tried again, removed firefox completely and then reinstalled it. I am happy to say I am mywebsearch free. I just have to go back in and fix all my settings and such and should be all set now. I am eternally grateful for your help and patience with such a novice as myself. Have a great weekend.
