Hi guys;

I'm hoping someone can help me here and save me a complete system format / reinstall.

I recently purchased a used computer from an Internet Cafe which had many games installed on it. Now since I did not receive any of the CD's for the games and the OS, nor do I know how to check and find the serial numbers in my registry (they are all fully purchased copies of the games, but the internet cafe was going out of business and was in a hurry to get rid of the computers)I decided rather than reformat the machine, I would try to clean it all up.

I have run almost every utility I know of to clean things out, I've run Norton Utillities, I've run Spybot, I've gotten rid of most of my startup's through MSCONFIG, and I've deleted many BHO's through custom process's. I have done a full antivirus scan and have installed all of the latest MS WinXP patchs.

The reason I am posting here is because I just ran HijackThis and I was wondering if someone knowledgeable would be willing to take a look at my log file and tell me if I missed anything.

Your help would be very appreciated.

Rather than post a log that not many people can read.....and without being asked for it, it will probably get deleted....

Post details of what problems you have.

Thank you for the comment, although it is just repeating what the Computing.Net system already told me. I DIDN'T post a log, and I just DID give you the details of my problem ... I'm confused about your comment.

Hi Moe!!

Download these programs (they are all free!!!), immediately update them and then run them. You can delete what they find - it will be spy/ad/malware.

1. Ad-aware
www.lavasoftusa.com
2. Spybot Search and Destroy
www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
3. CWShredder
www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/index.html
CWShredder file here should be the latest version. This program is specifically to combat CoolWebsearch and its variants.

WHEN you have run these programs then download (again free!!) Spywareblaster
www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareblaster.html

and update it. You will not need to manually run this program - it runs in the background to keep much spy/ad/malware off your system.

They should get rid of most malware that has found its way onto your system from the cafe.

If you want to know exactly what's on your system then these 2 programs will help and give you loads of info

aida32
www.aida32.hu/aida32.php and
belarc advisor

Good luck!!

Moe, we can help you with your HJT log if needed. Click on the link under my name.

Just for the record, there are still quite a few hijackers and spyware that Ad-aware and Spybot S&D don't pick up. They will never be able to pick up all of it because the spyware pushers are always coming up with new tricks. That's why HijackThis is the *best* tool around. Running Ad-aware and Spybot first are recommended too.

Moe,

you never said you had any problems, you just asked for somebody to look at the log.
If you have a specific problem, say what it is.

This page will help you read HJT logs.

good luck
