HELP! Programs not responding

My friend adviced me to tell my problem here in computing.net she said that you helped her too with her computer.. hope you can help me too.. this is the problem...

i cannot run anymore the programs. Start up menu is missing. My anti-virus (avira) detected this virus w32/Virut.v

I dont know what seems to be the problem.. please help me fix my computer.

I would try starting up your computer in 'safe mode' and find/uninstall the virus.

You can choose that option when windows boots up. You have to hit either F10 or F12 or something else depending on what computer brand you have.

Here is a discription on how to remove the virus.
I think you don't need F-Secure for this procedure.
So you can also use the installed antivirus software or use the free avira antivir for that.

have you ever seen a Virus, that provides a uninstall option.
That's new to me.
