Subject: HELP! PC won't boot Windows
OS: Windows XP pro
CPU/Ram: pentium4
Comment:

hello! please help me.. my PC being attacked by trojan I think.
Many of the program's exe became inactive, and many in the system
too.
I have 2 partition C: and D: , C: system is in C: .and I tried to
use
Norton Ghost Image file to recover it, but something went wrong I
think. Usually it will automatically reboot and start the operation,
but now it stops at start-up DOS screen and ask:

1. Run Norton Ghost Dos Operation.
2. Return to Windows without running Norton Ghost.

and no matter which I chose, I get this message:
"This program must be run under WIN32"

I use Windows xp Pro by the way. and there it also says I can type
"ghreboot" to start windows but I tried that and still get the
"WIN32"
massage.
so there I typed "ghost" to get into ghost operating screen and run
the image file and recovered my system. but as I reboot the PC again
it still stops at DOS and ask the 1, 2 question..
I looked into the recovered system partition through ghost operating
screen, everything seems restored as before. but unless the ghost
image was corrupted already?
anyway now my PC stops at the DOS screen with that "WIN32" message..
can anyone help please?
or is there anyway to get rid of that Norton Ghost vertual drive to boot from Windows? I tried Norton's official site but couldn't find the solution...

Can you get into safe mode?

It's similar to a prank.

ah I see, hit F8 key on start up.
but the thing is now my PC will only boot by the Norton Ghost virtual drive.. I can't get to the normal F8 options... I just want to shut the Ghost down through the DOS screen..

Have you saved all your important stuff.

If you hav'nt, I would Slave your HD to another HD/comp ( no need to bolt it in, just cable it & leave it outside the case ) & copy your stuff ( don't forget your emails & address book ) onto the other HD or other media.
You may have a choice of jumper settings on the master HD, such as master with slave or ms.

Now put it back in your comp, once again, no need to bolt it in at this stage ( change the jumper, back to where it was )

Here is a possible.

remove Norton Ghost virtual drive
