Hello world,
I have a problem and need advice from you more experienced users out there.

I recently noticed that Norton is scanning outgoing emails which are being automatically generated (without my consent)at such an alarming rate that they eventually exhaust my system resources. There's no evidence of them in the Outlook Express Sent Items box either. This activity can suddenly occur and go on for some time and then suddenly stop. At times I can go for hours without a problem or I am driven mad & have to shut down because I can't use the internet, since scanning takes priority.

Some background to my problem:
My Norton 2002 virus update subscription expired earlier this year and for several months I was unprotected from new viruses. When I renewed it this month I did a system scan which picked up Trojan Bootconf. Norton deleted it and quarantined msinfo.exe which I have since also deleted. Norton 2002 system scan then gave my system the all clear.... but I was still being hijacked.

The problem became so annoying that I consulted my local computer shop on 25th Nov and they ran Norton 2003 which also found everything clear, yet my email was still being hijacked by something. They decided to run a scan from the Computer Associates (www.ca.com) website and it identified the Win32.DIToon.C virus and infected files loader.exe and iedll.exe

These files could not be cleaned/cured so they were deleted. The subsequent scan from the CA site said all clear and for extra security they installed F-secure Antivirus which also gave my system the all clear.

Unfortunately the problem has not been resolved. My email is still being hijacked.

I can find no mention of the Win32.DIToon.C anywhere. It probably has another more popular name or it is very recent.

My questions are:
What is the likely cause of my problem?
Is it Win32.DIToon.C or other name ?
How can I resolve it?
What can I do to prevent it from happening in future?

Regards,
Frustrated Darryl100

Hello Darryl,
I think you already answered partly to the question, you didn't care too much about your own security into your computer, and of course you got a problem...
Following what you said, it's difficult now to find a reason whatfor you got into that situation...
I think the best solution would be now to restart and reinstall your computer totally in order to start again with a clean computer... otherwise you will run from problem to problem permanently...
You need a anti-virus program updated, a firewall, and programs today to avoid cookies spywares as for exemple AdAware...as well as SpywareBlaster, Trojan Remover to prevent trojan's horses
AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/english/support/download
SywareBlaster:

Trojan Remover:

Good luck...
