Comment: I've seem to have got a nasty virus that wont letme get on line, it won't letme renew my ip-adress. I currently have high speed internet and no matter how I recofigure my modems or reset, won't go on line, I've tested all my hard ware and network configurations and settings, even tried dialup, but no matter what I do my comp. won't go on line, I even show conectivity with my equipment. I think it's a virus because I used my disks to work on my friends comp. that had many problems, and when I came home and used my cd's and disks on my comprs.now I can't go on line on any of them. not even my friends comp. is working and he's got a diferent ISP. I"ve tried reformatting, debuging, and installing a new operating sistem. But keeps coming to the same thing. I need help badly, and will do anithing to fix my problem. if anyone knows what is going on please let me know.........help.

Reply: (edit)Have you checked in device manager for unknown or conflicting hardware (will show ? or! ) As for the modem not working...first of all I dont think you can just change ip with hi speed (assuming it is cable) I think you need to contact your ISP about that. I have no clue about dsl. I would try either unplugging or turning off the modem to allow it to reset then turn it back on and try internet. You could also try uninstalling the drivers for the nic card or whatever device that hi speed modem is connected to, shut down puter, remove the card, reboot, shut down again, put card back in, reboot and allow windows to find the new hardware...it should install its own drivers for the card or install whatever driver that came with the card. You say it shows you are connected...does anything work at all? like if you try updating antivirus, or using whatever chat program you use if any, or updating anything that doesn't require IE ? What kind of errors are you getting when you try running anything that requires internet access? Are you runing a firewall? Have you tried temporarily disabling it if you are? Check my network places> view network connections> Your internet connection> status> What does it say there under general? Try disabling the device, reboot, and re-enable it. Until someone comes up with better ideas...there's a few things to try. Good luck
