Comment: I get an error message when i start my computer. I was told by Dell it was part of mywebsearch and to uninstall the program. However, when I do this I get another error message. It says it has already been removed by still shows up in my programs list and I keep getting the errors. Can anyone help? Thanks! Salina

Reply: (edit)mywebsearch is spyware pure and simple, so much for windows defender keeping our computers safe. I'm guessing you're running Vista as it came from Dell with all the trialware and bloatware still installed. If this is the case, there is no easy way to get the spyware off the computer, because unless you neuter all the redundant backups in Vista, it will just recreate the problem. The most practical way is to backup all important data to a DVD and do a complete retore. If you choose this route, be sure to uninstall all trialware including Norton, all manufacturers software, then neuter all the resource hogs and redundant backups in Vista. AVG free is excellent for anti virus, and spybot does an excellent job of keeping spyware off the computer.

Reply: (edit)comtechguy, If you believe mywebsearch originated from trialware & bloatware preinstalled on new computers, then we all are in big trouble with Windows now that M$ has re-defined crapware as "performance enhancer." M$ - the mother of all Windows - proudly announced last week that they have forged alliance with 11 OEM system builders to preinstall 90-day trialware version of Windows Live OneCare. LINK P.S. Needless to say I think McAfee & Symantec must be pissed off at M$ pushing them further off Windows desktop landscape. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)I forgot to add that uninstalling WLOC from Add/Remove program is not that simple. Once you invoke the Remove you immediately will be taken to M$ marketing interrogation site and be asked lots of questions that requires answer before the web-based uninstaller will finally go to work. This is pathetic. I also think this is what will happen when you use any of their Live software (easy to install tough to uninstall). i_Xp/VistaUser
