Hello all, new to the board. I got infected with the antivirus 2008 virus today. I read through the forum and did the steps I saw for trying to fix the issue. I think I did it as I do not see a problem now. I went to task manager and stoped the process for anything that did not look right and also did it in msconfig then rebooted. I tried to delete the program form my control panel but could not do it until I physically deleted the file from C drive program files. It is now deleted from the control panel and desk top. I had to restore my desktop tabs and themes from kellys korner in order to remove the modified theme. I did a deep anti-virus and anti-spyware scan with my Ananquest fix-it utilities pro with no results of virus/spyware. I then downloaded HiJackThis as suggested and came up with a list of stuff that I cannot make heads or tails of. Can anyone tell me if I have done all I can to completely remove this virus or what I need to continue with? I am not very computer literate on the hijackthis information so I cannot tell or not. Thanks for any assistance. Shoe

mavis, Thanks for your help and the link. I took the information and pasted it in the analyser and it found some areas that required action. I fixed them as identified and ran hijackthis and the analyser again and it came up clean. Do I need to empty the recycle bin prior to hooking back up to the internet and am I done with this? Thanks again for your assistance. shoe

... my bin is always empty, I only use it to restore files back from whence they came!

... I use the DEL+shift key otherwise.

... if your bin is full and your pc starts up also going through checking whats in there may cost you 1.3 seconds.

... LOL

Thanks for all your help. It seems that it has been defeated. For some reason My MCAfee OAS was disabled and I think that is what allowed it in the first place. Thanks for the analyser as it told me about that. All has been fixed and repaired, again thanks for your assistance. Shoe

Hello all, this is my first post. I need help with XP Antivirus 2008. My PC got this sucka today and I tried to disable it by going into msconfig, start up, then unchecked the rogue program and rebooted in safe mode. However, when I got to the windows log in screen, I cannot log in. I tried the user account and the admin account. Please help.
