Comment: I'm not sure if I have a virus, but as of yesterday I am unable to connect to the internet with my PC. When I start the computer, Netscape, IE and any other internet apps dont work, and quit, giving me an error message; "...has caused an error in <unknown>" . I have a router and run a mac and PC off it. The mac is working fine still. I can't connect to the router from the PC with telnet either. I have checked my hardware for any possible problems with the connect and there don't seem to be any. I don't think it is simply a problem connecting to the internet, because the web browsers wont even load up. Any help with this problem would be most appreciated. Thanks, Al

Reply: (edit)I found this link: http://www.duxcw.com/yabbse/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=7684 P.S. Also make sure the connections are snug. It could just be a cable problem. JPQ

Reply: (edit)Hey, thanks a lot, I think you have discovered the problem. I forgot to mention that I have been using a system optimiser program recently which seems to be having bad effects. I think I have the same problem as the dude in the post you sent. Now that I know what I am dealing with it will be a lot easier to fix, thanks again, Al

Reply: (edit)Hmm, I have tried a few different things now. I uninstalled my ethernet driver and then reconfigured it many times. I then re-instally windows, it didnt seem to help. After that I removed one of the ports from the System profile in the control panels, with the intention of reinstalling it. This didnt help either and caused the computer to crash and not start up. I reinstalled windows again and still have no luck with connecting to the internet. I get the feeling that the physical connection is fine, because i can still connect to a thing called the KAD network on emule, and I can also send error reports to microsoft (apparently). All other apps which I try to connect to the internet (FTP, games, browsers, telnet) all get errors in "unknown" or crash when I load them. Any more suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks, Al
