There's a new killer in town, known officially as Trojan W32/Rbot-VN.

The key to look for in your HiJack This Logs will be:

rant" = "rant.exe" [null data]

This one will:
QUOTE
# Allow others to access the computer
# Delete files off the computer
# Steal information
# Use its own emailing engine (!!)
# Downloads code from the internet

The gimmick: This has some kind of hidden file that will "come back"; after deletion and cleaning the system, the hidden file will activate when you access the internet and download different types of spyware, virii, etc from pre-determined websites. The experts are working on a fix now, but so far THERE IS NONE. Reformat and Reinstall is the only removal method known so far.
Even Sophos says it won't be included in their definitions until March.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.
