I got a new hard disk 80Gb, to use as slave and save there my data. After 1 month of use, about 40Gb of data stored, i lost it. The system didn't recognize it, as it wasn't formatted. The master hd was ok, the system saw it. Ok, i thought i got a virus, then i formatted it. But 1 month later, the same thing. About 40Gb of data stored. The same. I have to format it again.
Could someone help me? Is it a virus (i thought i keep it in avi or mpg files) or some other?

it can be a bad ribbon cable, and make sure you're using an 80 wire,40 pin connector cable, black to master, grey to slave, and blue to ide controller connector.
this is the suggested solution at microsoft, and from maxtor tech support.
